Laboratory
ACRS has a full in house laboratory for more rapid blood results. We use the Abaxis Vet Scan machines to run both CBC and Blood chemistry profiles. We can have the results in less than 15 minutes. If more complete testing is indicated, we can send the blood work out to Idexx Veterinary Laboratories, with results returned on most samples by 8:00 am the next morning.
In addition to our Abaxis Machines, we have the capability to perform in house progesterone testing on our Mini Vidas Machine. This machine allows us to have progesterone results within 1 hr of obtaining the sample. This capability is essential for success in timing breeding, especially with fresh chilled and frozen semen breedings.
We send all of our bacterial cultures out to IDEXX as well, with results back within 72 hrs with both a bacterial identification as well as drug sensitivities. This allows us to select the most effective antibiotic to help clear the infection.
We stock several in house tests for specialized applications. We are equipped to run in house LH (Leutenizing Hormone) and Brucellosis testing for our breeder clients. We also stock an antigen test for identifying Giardia and a specific test for identifying pancreatitis.
We utilize Michigan State University for “Gold Standard” Thyroid testing. MSU is one of the approved laboratories for OFA thyroid testing, one of the many pre-breeding screening tests available to breeders to screen breeding stock for health issues.
We encourage breeders to submit samples to various DNA studies going on around the country. We work closely with the University of Missouri in supplying blood samples for their research blood bank. We will work with any breeder interested in submitting blood or tissue samples to any study they would like samples to go to.
